That Feral Housewife

Yeah, I know that feels like a stretch for this economy but trust me – it’s possible. Some of these are honestly my favorite date nights that we do together and just because it’s not expensive doesn’t mean it’s not fun and a great way to get quality time together. 

1. Try a dance class. There’s a local dance group in our area that offers lessons at our local honky-tonk for $20 a couple. We each get a drink at the bar and a couple hours of dancing and that’s a great night for us. Occasionally we’ll skip the drinks and hit the drive-thru instead but either way it’s still under $50 when we go out and do this, and it’s fun to learn something new together. 
2. Takeout & Game Night. My sweetheart and I both play video games and if we’re not feeling the whole “going out and doing something” vibe, then sometimes we’ll find a game to play together in tandem and order in. Red Robin has a great burger deal right now that’s $10 a person, so it’s a great way to have a good meal that no one has to cook, and still have fun together. 
3. Coffee & Backroads. There have been times where we just get a coffee, (usually around $10-$12 for the two of us) and drive back roads, talking and sipping the whole time. Even just going for an hour or two you can really delve into some deep topics that bring you closer together, plus you might get to explore a new area that you’ve never been to before without breaking the bank. 
4. Attend a concert. Now before you start telling me that concert tickets are way more than $50 – there are multiple local concerts that are free or low cost to attend. We went to a local winery this summer, and they had an outdoor concert where the tickets were only $10-$15 each. You could bring in your mini cooler with small, non-alcoholic beverages and your own chairs as well. This option gets you some fairly inexpensive entertainment, and if you feel like splurging on local wine you can, or if your budget doesn’t allow, you don’t have to feel bad for not buying either. 
5. Attend a trivia or bingo night. This option is fun because it can become a competition and there are usually several bars or restaurants that have one of these events going for either free or low entry fee. You could get appetizers and drinks if you wish depending on your budget, or you can just enjoy the fun activity as is. 

The biggest thing about date night is that it is intentional, fun, and a way to bring the two of you closer together. So matter if it’s $50 or $500, intentionality is key, and the event is the opportunity to do something cool together.
